Sewing Machine Project:
Real Aid Project- Sewing Machine and Tailoring Skills 2019
A good number of women involved in Village Banking Savings have felt victimised by the huge debts and wanted to find out ways on how to get free from such awful bondage.
It was early in March 2019 when a group of women approached LWE director for an alternate Skills Support.
One day Skills Discovery Workshop was arranged with funds from SENTAfrica.
Money as spent on food, water, soft drinks, stationery and travels. The total cost was MK220, 000
Most women groups suggested tailoring skills if sewing machines were to be provided. A report was sent to LWE partner, SENTAfrica. It was then prayed about and shared. Pledges were made from those the Lord touched.
After three months- June 2019; 6 used sewing machines were brought to LWE site from Starfish Malawi. It was noted that the condition of two of the six machines was not good compared to the other four.
About 21 women of the total 42 who attended the training in March 2019 came to map the way forward- to discuss as to how and when to begin learning how to manage the machines. Messages of hope and encouragements were shared to the women noticing that the number of the sewing machines made available was not enough for all the women.
The Tailoring Skills Project will require 21 sewing machines. Two women will be able to share one machine during training sessions. However, we expect the remaining 17 Sewing machines (if bought NEW) would cost £1600.
In the meantime, a skilled trainer from Starfish Malawi will be paid by LWE to begin giving tailoring training to 4 Women now. Then these four will be able to pass on the skills to the whole group and even extend the project to more women.
More machines are needed – can you help? All money donated to this project will go towards purchasing sewing machines for this women’s group. If you want to target your donation send us an email specifying whether your donation is for ‘purchase’ or ‘shipping’. We want to provide a further seventeen machines. After the machines arrive at the LIVINGWAY centre training will be provided. Donors will be kept up to date with the progress of the project through this website.

Bringing electricity to the site – 2019?
It had been hoped that this project would have been completed in 2018 but talks are still ongoing. We always expected this project to provide a considerable challenge. There will need to be a willingness for cooperation between the District Council, the electricity provider, ESCOM as well as ourselves and other uses for this project to reach completion. When the opportunity presents itself we want to be ready. For now, it is enough that we ask you to pray for LIVINGWAY EDUCATION. In becoming self-reliant we will need to have a dependable source of power. Our visitors at the LIVINGWAY Guesthouse, the many users of the LIVINGWAY Maize Mill and the groups using LIVINGWAY conference centre will all benefit from having mains electricity. Please pray that this might be soon and that all invo0lved in the setting up of this essential infrastructure will act and follow through with wisdom and a united desire for community growth.
This will be a major outlay for LIVINGWAY EDUCATION and will mark the end of the infrastructure construction phase of our work. From this point, it will be expected that the income streams will be funding the development work of LIVINGWAY EDUCATION.
We will keep all our supporters and those interested in our work informed as this project continues.
